Position Details

  • Pediatric Clinics Nurse Manager
  • Promotes attendance at hospital and unit based in-services.
  • Actively participates in departmental/hospital-wide PI activities.
  • Co-ordinates a fully documented Performance Improvement Project annually.
  • Promotes continuous performance improvement in daily operations.
  • Participates in collecting and/or reviewing data to enhance services within the department and makes recommendations to modify unit s clinical practice based on QI findings.
  • Ensures a safe working environment through compliance with hospital policies and procedures regarding safety, infection control, and security.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes incident and customer complaint reporting to improve patient and family care.
  • Thoroughly investigates all incidents and customer complaints.
  • Initiates risk management processes suited to needs of patients in unit.
  • Facilitates unit s work flow, assignments of tasks and follows up on staffing issues.
  • Serves as a clinical role model to staff.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practices with ability to recognize and apply basic pathophysiology in the disease process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and the ability to, render care based on age appropriateness and developmental needs of patients.
  • Maintains clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice. Completes all Core Competencies for nursing as well as applicable Unit Specific Competencies within prescribed timelines.
  • Demonstrates awareness and knowledge of Infection Control, Pain Management and Wound Care practices.
  • Understands the responsibilities of safe handling, and administration of Narcotic / Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.
  • Involves patient, significant others and healthcare provider in patient s plan of care and education.
  • Provides and supports direct culturally acceptable care for patients and families.
  • Develops measurable improvement goals for the specific clinical area.
  • Implements and evaluates new and creative approaches to meeting improvement goals.
  • Ensures optimum fiscal and budgetary management of the specific clinical area. This includes ability to control of lost revenue.
  • Creates and supports an environment which fosters teamwork, cooperation, and respect for cultural diversity.
  • Coordinates with Nursing Office to ensure all staff are in possession of a current license.
  • Ensures all staff receives written annual/probationary evaluations by review date.
  • Ensures attendance annually for staff at mandatory in-services.
  • Ensures 100% of new staff completes a planned departmental orientation within 120 days.
  • Promotes development and use of Care Planning and/or Clinical Pathways.
  • Maintains accountability for budgeting/financial management and optimal use of resources in the clinical area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing (duration not less than three years) or
  • Diploma in Nursing (not less than three academic years in nursing only) or
  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (not less than three academic years)
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Nursing Management/Advanced Clinical Speciality preferable
  • Current license to practice nursing in country of origin and with the DHA
  • BLS certification
  • At least 5-7 years of nursing experience in related specialty
  • At least 2 years of Managerial Experience.
  • Demonstrates incremental leadership and management experience
  • Private hospital experience preferred
